Built in the 19th century and having once been a convent, The Alverton is steeped in history and proud of its status as a Grade II listed building. Following the conclusion of an extensive refurbishment programme, the hotel unveiled a stylish new look and was awarded the coveted four star rating by the AA. The trendy bar and brasserie, which opened last year, features a stunning terrace overlooking private gardens which compliments The Alverton’s signature blend of timeless elegance and contemporary design perfectly.
At the end of 2013 The Alverton celebrated receiving the Silver award for ‘Small Hotel of the Year’ at the Cornwall Tourism Awards and a ‘Highly Commended’ in the South West Tourism Excellence Awards. Operations Director, Kearan McVey commented, “We are really proud to receive the awards recognising the investment that has been put into the hotels and most importantly the hard work of both teams”.
Head Chef Damien Wager launched his menu for the new season this month, focusing around modern British cuisine with his own fine dining twist, offering guests the chance to experience exceptional local and seasonal produce.
Having now worked in kitchens around Cornwall for around five years, Damien took early inspiration from Ben Reeve at Hotel Penzance. Next, after spending time honing his skills in Michelin star kitchens, he then took up a position under the talented Simon George at the Carbis Bay Hotel prior to his move to The Alverton. With the help of his Sous Chef Adam Gerrish, winner of Cornwall Masterchef 2013, Damien is looking forward to sharing his love for fine cuisine with food lovers from far and wide.

A great fan of the multiple award-winning Trelawney Traditional pork sausage and Proper Hogs Pudding, Head Chef Damien Wager is pleased to support the local business. “The Kernow Sausage Company clearly supplies the best local pork, but being a small family orientated business, the detail and care for each and every customer is unbelievable”.
