Our Story

Our story is about passion and pride. The Kernow Sausage Company was started in 2007 by Gavin Roberts, a butcher who became disillusioned with the lack of respect and care he saw in commercial meat production. Having been taught to make sausages as a child by his grandmother, Gavin embarked on a venture to rekindle the love he believed had been lost from the industry.

Our story starts with Gavin Roberts and his family of sausage lovers. From humble beginnings, borrowing a butchers on evenings and weekends, the company is now based at a county farm in Tregony on the Roseland peninsular and continues to be very family focused. Armed with Granny’s secret recipe, still used in the Trelawney Pork sausage, the Roberts family use their combination of butchery expertise and culinary passion to lovingly hand craft their succulent sausages with the finest cuts of pork. The farm is home not just to Gavin & his family but also to the Barwick herd of pigs who enjoy the luxury of the mild sea air and laid back Cornish lifestyle.

Our FarmThe company’s products have won over 25 awards both locally and nationally, including Royal Cornwall Show’s ‘Best New Product 2011’ in collaboration with Skinners Brewery. With the Cornish Sweetheart Bacon winning a Great Taste Award in 2012 and Mediterranean Medley Sausage also being successful in 2013, their products certainly have the attention of connoisseurs. Using only exceptional ingredients, the recipes are developed with consideration as to how the product will be used in the kitchen. From Michelin starred chefs to local farmers, the company now supply an eclectic mix of customers in catering, hospitality and retail with some of the finest sausages, bacon and pork in the county.
